From the beginning, I have argued that Russia’s end is a matter of time. The relentless drone strikes on Russian energy infrastructure, and the flood of abysmal economic data that is emerging from Russia has only reinforced this conviction.

Ukraine and her allies are hitting the Russian economy hard. Any hopes for a recovery are slipping out of reach.

The Kremlin’s pre-war strategy cushioned the effect of sanctions temporarily. The plan to conquer Ukraine quickly has failed. The economic resources and spare parts stacked up were meant to fuel multiple wars of conquest. The Russian war chest helped Putin withstand the sanctions for some time. This national wealth fund is running dry, as Russia continues her snail-paced advance in the Donbas.

Russian inflation soars, interest rates climb, and capital flees. Price controls erode the ruble’s value, and the Kremlin’s GDP growth is a mirage.

Real value adding production has stalled; the defense sector is propped up by the money printing press, not by genuine revenue. The regime wants to project short-term prosperity to prevent Russian citizens from looking deeper into the numbers. Numbers do not lie, and they tell a different story.

The economic resilience of Russia is an illusion. Even Sberbank’s own CEO, German Gref, now admits that the Russian economy is stagnating. Konstantin from Inside Russia has put together micro and macroeconomic data showing that Russia’s supposed economic resilience is an illusion.
